Dr. Alain Bitton is Professor of Medicine at McGill University and is currently the Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at McGill University. He completed a 2-year IBD Clinical Research fellowship at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. His research in IBD has included population-based studies describing the epidemiology of IBD in Quebec and studies identifying prognostic factors predictive of IBD course and recurrence. He is the Quebec clinical lead of the NIH-NIDDK IBD Genetics Consortium. He is also the Quebec Lead of the Canadian Gastro-intestinal Epidemiology consortium (CanGIEC) which is a pan-Canadian multidisciplinary team of investigators aimed at providing evidence to improve the quality of care for Canadians. He spearheaded the development of a tool (IBD Global Rating Scale) to be used for ongoing assessment and improvement of care of IBD patients in Canada.
