The Master Classes

 

Mentoring in IBD: The Master Class is an annual national symposium in its 24th iteration in 2023. The Master Class delivers a proven formula of clinically relevant state-of-the-art lectures on hot topics in tandem with expert-led, case-based workshops and open discussion with distinguished faculty and peers to address the complexities of IBD diagnosis and management. Following the national symposium each year, The Master Class goes on the road with the scientific content customized to meet the learning needs of the specialist communities in Western, Atlantic and French Canada.

The Master Class XXIV • 2023

The educational objective of the Mentoring in IBD XXIV Master Class is to increase awareness of current developments and best practices in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management, promote collaboration among Canadian gastroenterologists, and optimize treatment of IBD. Participants in this program will be able to:

  • Consider the approach to cutaneous manifestations in the IBD patient
  • Discuss current therapies and management strategies for ulcerative colitis
  • Explore todays and future treatments for pouchitis
  • Examine evolving therapies and management strategies for Crohn’s disease
  • Review treatment of the elderly with IBD with a focus on safety and efficacy
  • Survey current IBD literature

The Master Class XXIII • 2022

The educational objective of the Mentoring in IBD XXIII Master Class is to increase awareness of current developments and best practices in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management, promote collaboration among Canadian gastroenterologists, and optimize treatment of IBD. Participants in this program will be able to:

  • Discuss mental health disorders in IBD
  • Explore obesity in IBD and associated manifestations
  • Examine the impact of IBD on bone health
  • Consider thromboembolic complications in IBD
  • Review current knowledge on biologics and newer agents—big and small molecules
  • Survey current IBD literature

The educational objective of the Mentoring in IBD XXII program is to increase awareness of current developments and best practices in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management, promote collaboration among Canadian gastroenterologists, and optimize treatment of IBD. Participants in this program will be able to:

  • Discuss major changes to vaccination guidelines and the impact on IBD patients and practice
  • Explore dysplasia surveillance techniques in IBD
  • Examine sequencing of therapies with new molecules and combination biologics

The educational objective of the Mentoring in IBD XXI program is to increase awareness of current developments and best practices in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management, promote collaboration among Canadian gastroenterologists, and optimize treatment of IBD. Participants in this program will be able to:

  • Explore new therapies in IBD with emphasis on individualized therapy and strategic sequencing
  • Discuss treatment options in inflammatory bowel disease patients with cancer
  • Examine the roles of therapeutic drug monitoring and individualized dosing across biologic agents

The Master Class XX • 2019

The educational objective of the Mentoring in IBD XX program is to increase awareness of current developments and best practices in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management, promote collaboration among Canadian gastroenterologists, and optimize treatment of IBD. Participants in this program will be able to:

  • Differentiate nutrition as primary therapy for IBD vs. nutritional support and replacement
  • Explore new therapies in IBD with emphasis on individualized therapy and strategic sequencing
  • Compare endoscopic and radiologic imaging advances in technology for the evaluation of small bowel Crohn’s disease
  • Discuss rheumatological manifestations in inflammatory bowel disease
  • Examine checkpoint inhibitor colitis, NSAID colopathy and infectious colidites to differentiate IBD mimickers from real IBD
