Dr. Frank Hoentjen is a Gastroenterologist, Associate Professor of Medicine, and director of the inflammatory bowel disease unit at the Division of Gastroenterology, University of Alberta. His PhD was awarded by the Free University Medical Center, Amsterdam following a research fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and focused on cell signal transduction in experimental models of colitis. He completed his GI residency at the Free University Medical Center, Amsterdam and an advanced IBD fellowship at the University of Chicago. In 2011 he joined the Gastroenterology faculty at the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen, The Netherlands until 2021, and was director of the IBD unit and the GI clinical trial unit. He was chair of the Initiative on Crohn and Colitis (ICC), the Dutch national organization for IBD research and co-founder of the ICC registry. His current clinical research focusses on real-world evidence on biologics as well as colorectal cancer surveillance in IBD patients.
