Marietta Iacucci received her Medical Degree and Gastroenterology training from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” School of Medicine. She did her PhD at the University of Tor Vergata of Rome, Italy & Imperial College London, UK. She worked as gastroenterology consultant in Italy at S. Camillo Hospital, Rome. She spent two years in London and Cambridge, UK and in Mainz, Germany, Milan, Italy and Tokyo, Japan.

She moved from Italy to the Division of Gastroenterology, University of Calgary, Canada as Clinical Associate Professor of Gastroenterology in 2011. In Canada, she established an advanced endoscopic platform for IBD and cancer by introducing novel imaging and confocal endomicroscopy. In August 2016, she joined University of Birmingham as the reader in gastroenterology and honorary consultant.

Her research is focused on advanced endoscopic imaging such as dye, virtual electronic chromoendoscopy and confocal laser endomicroscopy in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease, advanced polypectomy (EMR, ESD) and management of inflammatory bowel disease. She has published many manuscripts and she has been invited to deliver lectures at many international and national conferences endoscopy in IBD and Gastrointestinal cancer. Marietta is theme lead for the NIHR Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre‘s inflammatory gastroenterology theme.
