Fernando Velayos is chief of gastroenterology at Kaiser San Francisco Medical Center, regional lead for inflammatory bowel disease for Northern California Kaiser Permanente, and Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
He is a fellow of the AGA (American Gastroenterology Association) and immediate past chair for the AGA’s Immunology, Microbiology, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Section (IMIBD). He has served on the editorial board of several leading GI journals including Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and served as an associate editor for Digestive Diseases and Science.
His clinical and research interests involve clinical trials of novel therapies to treat IBD, population health strategies for managing IBD, and the prevention of colon cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
